It's so nice to be working with traditional media again. Makes a break from being on the computer all day.
Odd incident/coincidence - I left a maths book round a friend's house (yes I do read math books... Mathematics for Computer Graphics in fact). When my friend saw it he told me he'd recently ordered the same book (he's a programmer) . Maths geek out!

This is the first time I have properly used Paint Chat. My friend invited me. So I quickly doodle something. I am bad at drawing freehand on PC

Work continues. Digital colouring takes a while

Got most of the flats done, even if they're not the correct colour. Doing a bit of shading now. Digital is not that easy. Maybe I'll go back to traditional after this ^^;

Here is something that's definitely going to be finished completely. The pencils and inking took quite a while, I was determined to not rush into colouring it but work into the line work so that I don't get bored and skip details.
I've already noticed mistakes :S Well they shall be fixed as I go along.

It's raining a lot and it's cold. The nights are growing longer and soggy leaves line the pavements.
It's definitely Autumn in the UK.
I rather enjoy it. Apart from having caught a cold. I want to curl up in bed again.

1st October 09

So today I was attempting to actually build a stretchy IK rig, since all my rigs are either lost or out of date. However, I'm not the world's best 3D modeller, in fact I'm not that great at all. So off I go to the internet, as you do, to find a decent model to practice on. But... well... have you ever tried looking for something only you've obviously not input the correct search phrase, or else everything you find is not what you're looking for.
Short of it being that I decide it's faster to actually mock something up myself. So what with me and a bunch of vertices all having fun, I got somewhat distracted in the middle.

Hope you enjoy my procrastination of things I do for fun.
On the upside I did find some nifty MEL tools, which I have yet to try out tho.
Also if anyone is a 3D modeller and has some stuff they don't mind me playing with, feel free to throw it my way :)

Another doodly skecth attempt at using a graphics tablet. The variety to the order you can lay down colour is a lot vaster than I'm used to when I've been working on paper, so I've just been trying out a few things

Work plus digging out old animation work and trying produce new animation work, leaves me with little time for much else apart from 3D.
But here's a sample of something 2D I'm working on. Just a small section. The full piece is A1 sized - the largest I've ever worked (unless you count painting a picture on a door for a school exam).
So far it's going alright. Haven't butchered it with the colours yet :)

I did a bit of an edit to that digital painting I started a few weeks ago. No hugely impressive edit as of yet, just filling in some of the space and colours.

I spent Sunday just gone sketching out the pages for this year's Manga Jiman entry (I still haven't managed to get last year's entry online since I wanted to redo the tones :S which I...er... haven't gotten round to). The page layout's just about there I think. Spent quite a bit of time shuffling panels across pages in order to try and get the flow right.

So inbetween that I thought I'd best get the design for the main character out on paper. After struggling for quite some time on Sunday with the idea of 'ok draw a military man... what do they look like... oh dear I'm rubbish at modern warfare armor DX' I decided yesterday (in between naps whilst off work sick ;__;) that I'm just going to draw him as somone slightly more interesting.

Still not great at drawing men, but at least I have an idea of what he looks like :)

More update in the drawn out process of creating this piece. Hopefully it's at least a little interesting watching it build up.

Well this sketch started off way back at the beginning of the year. I even started colour blocking it, then tried to colour it digitally, then realised I can never learn at which point to stop with digital, so returned back to paper. Worked back into the sketch some more and this is the pre inked version.

Can you tell what it is? Of course, it's very rough and rather un-dynamic picture of a khezu vs a pikachu.
